James Weldon Johnson College Preparatory Middle School has a new mural.

The school's namesake is a well-known Jacksonville native and the writer of the black national anthem, Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing.

The mural was painted by artist Annette Pledger.

"One of the things that inspired me about doing this is that I feel like we really need to connect him with the song for all of our students, not just during Black History Month, but 180 days; as long as they're here, they need to realize that they're in the presence of greatness."-Principal Tamara Feagins
